Welcome to Norsk Folkemuseum's annual Christmas Fair in Oslo! Get into the Christmas spirit with bountiful market stalls, Christmas-decorated living rooms and yards, pre-Christmas concerts and Christmas comedy series.

Welcome to Norsk Folkemuseum's annual Christmas Fair in Oslo! The first two weekends in December we offer a large out-door market selling traditional Norwegian Christmas products and crafts by skilled artisans.

The great highlight of winter is the annual Christmas market. Then the museum appears at its best with a broad and atmospheric range of education, activities and entertainment.

This year, OBOS Day is Saturday 30 November. All OBOS members have free admission with up to four accompaniments. You do not need to reserve a ticket, but must show your membership card at the entrance.

This very popular Christmas market day is open to everyone, but if you are not an OBOS member, we encourage you to visit us on one of the other Christmas market days. The offer is the same all four days!

Program for Christmas Fair, 11.00-16.00 every day:

Christmas decorated living houses and yards

  • Yard hosts in period costumes invite into fragrant and decorated living rooms and yards that show Christmas traditions through the ages.

Christmas in the OBOS farm Wessels gate 15

  • The apartments are decorated for Christmas, and the hosts tell about the people who lived here and how they celebrated Christmas in the city.

The Christmas exhibition "Christmas for a thousand years" in the Exhibition Hall

  • Get to know Norwegian Christmas traditions through 1000 years! This year we also show a selection of nativity scenes from all over the world.

Market

  • Over 100 market stalls around the Museum that are brimming with Christmas spirit and Christmas gifts. All Christmas gifts in traditional crafts, jewelry, traditional food, Christmas decorations, warming clothes and much more.

New! New and larger yard full of "nissebarn" (Little christmas elves)

  • At Østerdalstunet, we invite the children to fun and play around the yard. There will be live Christmas jazz and sale of Christmas porridge.

New! Christmas in Polish in Piperviken

  • Experience Polish Christmas traditions in Piperviken, with a Christmas decoration workshop, Polish Christmas cake tasting and beautiful Polish nativity scenes, Szopka Krakowska.

News! The handicrafts house in Gamle Landbruk

  • Stalls with great goods from Oslo Regionhusflidslag and activities for children.

Christmas workshop for the children

  • In the Christmas workshop, we use recycled materials – join a competition to make the funniest or most Christmassy nativity scene.
  • Make hobby horses and wooden boats in the workshop (65,- per set)

Lefsebakst

  • Come and taste freshly baked Hardangerlefser in Eldhuset, in Numedal and Telemark. (35,- per lefse)

The Colonial

  • Experience a Christmas-decorated grocery store with the sale of old-fashioned drops to the delight of young and old!

Carpenter's Workshop

  • Snekkersmia is open with blacksmith and elf helpers, join in and forge your own hook!

Church coffee and Christmas carols

  • Experience atmospheric singing and oar sales in the prayer house.

Horse and carriage

  • Experience a tour of the Open-Air Museum in an atmospheric way (NOK 40 per person).

Bonfire at the DNT cabin

  • Join us for a nice barbecue of Marshmallows over the fire at a Christmas-decorated DNT cabin.

The artisans in the old town

  • The Potter, the Silversmith and the Weaver welcome you to a pleasant Christmas shopping.

The Pharmacy Museum is open

  • Welcome to a nice shop! Buy tasty Christmas gifts and incense in the pharmacy from the old days.

The Dental Museum is open

  • Come in and experience three different dental offices from approx. 1900, 1930 and 1960, with contemporary interiors and equipment.

Open barn

  • Say hello to pigs, sheep, calves, rabbits and chickens inside the barn.

Every day, at certain hours

12.00-15.00: Pony riding in Karterud (New place!)

  • For children, 3-6 years: Come and take a ride on the pony's back! The pony is rented by a skilled riding school instructor (45 NOK per trip).

12.30 and 14.00: Norwegian Folk Museum's dance group

  • The Norwegian Folk Museum's dance group performs in their beautiful folk costumes, with dancing and fiddle playing, in the Open Air Theatre.

13.00: Christmas concerts in Norwegian church art

  • Saturday 30 November: Christmas tunes with Arve Moen Bergset (violin, kveding and Hardanger fiddle) with pianist
  • Sunday 1 December: Christmas concert with the vocal ensemble Shadrack
  • Saturday 7 December: The Abel Choir sings
  • Sunday 8 December: Traces Gospel Choir with catchy Christmas carols

All concerts last 30 minutes. The concerts are included in the entry ticket, but has limited capacity: Fetch free tickets at the info boot next to the visitor centre.

13.30: Advent service in the Stave Church

  • Join the Advent service led by a priest from Frogner parish, singing and pre-Christmas atmosphere.

14:00: Christmas series in the OBOS farm Wessels gate 15

  • 30 November and 1 December: Our own Christmas conservator Geir Thomas Risåsen discusses Christmas and Christmas goat traditions
  • 7. December: Conservator of Witchcraft and Unexplained Events, Audun Kjus: The Scary Christmas
  • 8. December: Tradition conservator Ida Tolgensbakk: Confusing Christmas tradition: Lucia

15.30: Walking and Christmas carols around the Christmas tree

  • Join us and walk around the Christmas tree at Torget! The Santa Orchestra plays Christmas carols and all visitors are welcome to go and sing along!

New! Classical concerts with young musicians in Collettgården

Welcome to the concert, at 12.00 and 14.00 every day.

  • November 30 and December 1: Norway's new tenor hope Ian Bjørsvik with piano player Sigmund Skjeldrum Toppe
  • December 7 and 8: Christmas concert with star soloists Birgitta Elisa Oftestad and Alma Serafin Kraggerud

The artistic directors are the renowned Peter and Christina Herresthal.

Café Arkadia and The museum shop

Café Arkadia is open from 10:00 to 17:00, and also offers catering from the market.

There you can buy pastries, sausages, potato soup with pork knuckle, baked potatoes, delicious cocoa, coffee and cold drinks.

The museum shop is open from 10.00 to 17.00 and is converted into a beautiful Christmas shop with a separate area for Christmas products and decorations, knitwear and crafts.
