NEW THIS YEAR: We want all our visitors to enjoy a warm Christmas atmosphere and a pleasant experience. This year’s Christmas Fair will therefore have a limited number of tickets available. It’s a good idea to be early if you want to secure your ticket!

OBOS Day: Saturday, December 6

On this day, all OBOS members get free admission for themselves and up to 4 guests.

NEW THIS YEAR: The free tickets must be collected in advance through the OBOS membership app, and membership ID must be shown at the entrance. There is a limited number available, so make sure to get your tickets early!

This very popular day on the Christmas Fair is open to everyone, but if you are not an OBOS member, we encourage you to visit us on one of the other days. The program is the same on all four days!

Experiences

  • Christmas decorated houses: Hosts in treditional costumes invite you into decorated houses that show Christmas traditions through the ages and from different regions.
  • Christmas in The apartment building Wessels gate 15: The apartments are decorated for Christmas, and the hosts share stories about the people who lived there and how they celebrated Christmas in the city.
  • Christmas exhibition: Explore Norwegian Christmas traditions spanning 1000 years! 
  • Christmas talks: Fun, surprising, and educational presentations on various Christmas themes.
  • Choirs and classical concerts: Enjoy atmospheric Christmas music.
  • Christmas in Polish: Experience Polish Christmas traditions in Piperviken, including a Christmas decoration workshop, Polish Christmas food, and beautiful Polish nativity scenes, Szopka Krakowska.
  • Santa’s Yard: At Østerdalstunet, mischievous elves invite children to play Christmas games. There will be Christmas jazz with Østensjø Janitsjar, sales of Christmas porridge, and cozy moments by the fireplace. The mischievous elves arrive at 12:00!
  • Christmas workshop for children: In the workshop, we use recycled materials to make elves in many shapes and forms.
  • Church coffee and Christmas songs: Enjoy atmospheric singing and a raffle at the Bedehus.
  • Horse and carriage: Take a scenic tour of the Open-Air Museum (50 NOK per person).
  • Bonfire at the DNT cabin: Join in for cozy marshmallow roasting over the fire at a Christmas-decorated DNT cabin.
  • Beer brewing: Learn how Christmas beer is brewed and taste the wort in the Eldhuset at Hardangertunet.
  • Lefse baking: Come and taste freshly baked Hardanger lefse at Eldhuset, in Numedal and Telemark (35 NOK per lefse).
  • The Blacksmith: The forge is open with a blacksmith and elf helpers—make your own hook!
  • Open barn: Meet pigs, sheep, calves, rabbits, and chickens in the barn.

Christmas Shopping

  • Market stalls: Over 100 market stalls across the Open-Air Museum are brimming with Christmas spirit and gifts. Find everything from traditional handicrafts, jewelry, festive foods, and Christmas decorations to warm clothing and much more.
  • The handicrafts house in Gamle Landbruk: Stalls featuring beautiful products from the Oslo Regional Handicraft Association, along with small workshops for children. Shop knitted, felted, and crocheted items such as elves, slippers, bags, hats, and mittens, and let the kids try their hand at small crafts.
  • The Artisans: Visit the Pottery, Weaving, Silversmith, and Candle-making workshops for a cozy Christmas shopping experience.
  • The Pharmacy Museum: Step inside for a charming shopping experience! Purchase flavorful Christmas gifts and traditional incense from the old apothecary.
  • The Grocery Shop: Explore a Christmas-decorated Grocery shop with old-fashioned sweets to delight both young and old.
  • Museum Shop: The museum shop is decorated for Christmas and offers festive products, decorations, knitted goods, and handicrafts.

Food and Drink

  • Food tent at Karterud: Enjoy sweet and savory dishes, served hot or cold. Highlights include the traditional Swedish Christmas plate.
  • Christmas porridge at Santa’s Yard, Østerdalstunet
  • Lefse baking: Taste freshly baked Hardanger lefse at Eldhuset, in Numedal and Telemark (35 NOK per lefse).
  • Church coffee at the Bedehus.
  • Café Arkadia: Offers pastries, sandwiches, salads, and a selection of hot and cold drinks.

Transport and Admission

  • We encourage visitors to use public transport.
  • By bus: Bus no. 30 stops at Kongsgården (upper gate entrance) and at the Folkemuseet, near the main entrance.
  • By ferry: The Bygdø ferry runs between Rådhusbrygge 3 and Dronningen.
  • By car: Limited parking is available at the museum’s main entrance, Kongsgården, Huk, Bygdøy School, and the Viking Ship Museum. Signs and parking attendants are on site.
  • There are three entrances to the Christmas market.
  • Tickets: Purchase your tickets in advance—availability is limited.
