Forest Finns are one of five national minorities in Norway. The Forest Finns are descendants of migrants from eastern Finland who settled in Sweden in the late 16th century, and by the beginning of the 17th century had also crossed the border into Norway.

Program

From 12:00 to 16.00 at Ampiansbråten, Norsk Folkemuseum.

  • Experience traditional finnskogspols at 12.00, 13.00, 14:00, and 15.00.
    • Musician: Marte Ingeborg Haltli.
    • Dancers: Tilia Hernes Paasche-Aasen and Ånund Meberg Myhren.
  • Join the Forest Finn cultural trail – with prizes for everyone.
  • Demonstration of traditional Forest Finn ribbon weaving by Camilla Honkainen Miller.
  • Meet the Forest Finn Association and learn about their work. Flags and merchandise will be available for purchase.
  • Taste traditional Forest Finn food: Maja Elise Strand from Minimäki serves samples of Motti and bacon – the Forest Finns' "national dish".
