Programme
The day before the official celebration, we invite you to a warm and enjoyable day of festivities. The programme is organised in collaboration with Kven associations and is open to everyone — whether you have Kven roots or are simply curious about this national minority.
- Concert with the Kven choir Laulolinnut/Sangfuglene.
- New acquaintances: Meet Kven associations in the Oslo area.
- Welcome inside: In the museum’s houses from Finnmark, we will serve tastings of kaffijuusto/kaffeost (coffee cheese), teekakko/kvensk tekake (Kven tea cake), and lingonberry bread.
- Mini guided tours: At 11:30 and 13:30 in English, and at 12:30 and 14:30 in Norwegian. In Finnmark.
- Storytime for the youngest: Hear the story of Kuumitus, Tähtipoika/Spøkelset og stjernegutten (The Ghost and the Star Boy). In Finnmark at 11:30 and 12:30 (in norwegian).
- Church service: In Kven and Norwegian at the Bedehuset at 12:00. The organist will get the trøorgel/salmesykkelen going, and coffee and cake will be served afterwards.
- Kven traditional food will be available on the menu at Café Arkadia.
- Language Café: Listen to and practise kvääni/meänkieli at reserved tables in the café from 14:30–16:00.
- In the Museum Shop, you can purchase Kven flags and books for children, young people, and adults about the rich history of this national minority.
The celebration of Kven People’s Day is organised in collaboration with Kvääninuoret/Kvenungdommen and Etelä-Norjan kvääniseura/Kven Østlandet and Oslokvener.
