Christmas in the old town and the countryside

Welcome to an open guided tour of the open-air museum. We go back to a busy Christmas eve morning: in three different houses in the open air museum we look at different Christmas preparations, at different times, in the village and city, and in different social classes.

Christmas is a celebration with a 1000-year history in Norway, though with many differences. What people ate, how they decorated, and the traditions surrounding Christmas have been through many changes from the Middle Ages up till today. Some traditions are recognizable, others may seem foreign.

Join the guided tour and learn more about Christmas candles, Lussi, the wild hunt, and Christmas tree’s role and history in Norwegian Christmas celebrations.
