Norsk Folkemuseum's Dance Group

The Dance Group at Norsk Folkemuseum has been sharing Norwegian folk dance with children and young people for more than 70 years. Today, the group has around 70 active members.

Would you like to join?

The groups are divided by age, and each group rehearses once a week in a safe and inspiring environment. Training is led by professional dance instructors, and every rehearsal is accompanied by skilled folk musicians playing live.

All children and young people have the opportunity to perform on stage and take part in shows both during the summer and at the Museum’s Christmas Market. In addition, the youth dancers gain valuable stage experience through external performances upon request, and dancers over the age of 13 receive payment for many of these appearances.

Every other year, the oldest youth members travel within Norway or abroad to experience folk dance from other regions and cultures, share and teach Norwegian folk dance, and perform. These trips create strong bonds, meaningful cultural exchange, and memories that last a lifetime.

If you would like to attend a trial class or receive more information, please contact the head of the dance group, Siren Hermansen, at: folkedans@norskfolkemuseum.no

About Norsk Folkemuseum's Dance Group

Since 1953, the Norsk Folkemuseum's dance group has been spreading the joy of dance both nationally and internationally. With a wide selection of Norwegian folk dances in their repertoire, they have contributed to spreading knowledge and enthusiasm about Norwegian cultural heritage for decades! We perform at the mueseum in beautiful Setesdal costumes, with the Hardanger fiddle as our main accompanying instrument.

In addition, the group performs at private bookings in Oslo and the surrounding area, helping to keep Norwegian folk dance traditions alive. Dancers over the age of 13 receive payment for participating in most performances.
