Artifacts in the cowshed

Before the forced evacuation, many buried or hid things they did not want to lose but were unable to carry.

  • Merchant Hans T. Simonsen's Mucha Cups Jon-Erik Faksvaag / Norsk Folkemuseum

Mucha Cups

These mocha cups have belonged to the merchant Hans T. Simonsen, Brattholmen in Laksefjorden. During the fire the cups fell through the floor to the cellar. Only these small cups were unbroken. The cups were found there after the war.

A Spinning Wheel

This spinning wheel belonged to Emelie Josefine Klausen in Ytre Nordmannset, born in 1887. It was hidden in a scree and was retrieved and used after the war.

  • Ingebrigt Andreas Palmer's Toolbox Norsk Folkemuseum

A Toolbox

This toolbox belonged to Ingebrigt Andreas Palmer in Kvalsund, born in 1892. Before the forced evacuation it was buried in the potato field. It was dug up after the war and used for building the new house.

  • Emilie Jensen's Sewing Machine Jon-Erik Faksvaag / Norsk Folkemuseum

A Sewing Machine

This sawing machine belonged to Emilie Jensen born in Hasvik on Sørøya in 1886. Emilie brought it along when the family was evacuated south to Nordfjord, and also back to Hammerfest after the war.
