Our Exhibitions

Norway has a rich tradition of traditional dress. The exhibition presents glimpses of contemporary bunad use, locally distinctive historical costumes from earlier periods, and Sámi gákti (traditional Sámi dress).

This exhibition shows a selection of Norwegian folk art from the Middle Ages up to 1900.

This exhibition shows some features of daily life in Sámi communities at the end of the 19th and towards the middle of the 20th centuries. It also includes a section that presents aspects of Sami life and culture in recent times.

The exhibition focuses on the role of weapons in Norwegian rural society. Weapons are an important part of cultural history and played a more significant role for Norwegian farmers than in almost any other country.

The exhibition contains Norwegian church art from the period after the Reformation in 1536-37 and up to about 1800. It is Norway’s largest collection of church art from that period, and contains, among other things, altar pieces, pulpits, baptismal fonts, memorial plaques and church organs.

At the Museum Loft, we display a selection of objects that are rarely brought out from storage. A new exhibition opens in January 2027.
