The Barth Town House

Buildings with overhanging walls like these, where the upper story hangs out over the lower story, were common all along the coast in the 1700s, and can be traced back to the Middle Ages.

The house was probably built in the early 1700s while the outbuilding was built around 1800.

The house has two rooms on the lower floor. An exterior stair leads up to the upper floor where there are three rooms. The house lay on the harbor in Kragerø and is partly built on pillars with the sea below. In the 1920s, Kragerø got a railroad. The house was then torn down and the bay filled in to make room for the railroad station.
