The storehouse is constructed from slender logs using a special log-building technique called “findalslaft.” In this method, the cut in the upper part of the log goes all the way into the core, which has caused many of the log ends (corner joints) to crack over time. This structural weakness allows us to study the technical construction of the log joints.
A covered gallery (svale) made of post-and-beam construction runs around the loft floor on three sides of the building and ends at a three-seat privy at the back. The gallery, which is accessed via an external staircase, receives light through small arcades with Romanesque arches.
Slots in the walls of the loft chamber indicate that there may have been at least six sleeping places. The room received light through a small opening in the gable wall.
