Highlights

Museum Highlights:

  • Join a guided tour among the highlights of the Open-Air Museum, including Gol Stave Church. Meeting point at the Square.
  • In English: At 11.00. 12:00, 15.00 and 16:00.
  • Meeting point at the Square.

Guided tour of the exhibition Lapskaus Boulevard

  • Explore the lives of Norwegian immigrants in Brooklyn in the decades following World War II on a guided tour of the exhibition. 
  • Wednesdays at 13.00 - in English.
  • Meeting point at the exhibition hall (temporary exhibits).

Visit historical houses and meet hosts in traditional costumes:

  • Step into the 13th-century Stave Church from Gol.
  • Visit a grand living room from 1738, at Hove
  • Buy old-fashioned sweets, in the Grocery Shop
  • Experience life on a 19th-century farm, in Numedal
  • Join worker's wife Agnes in 1910, at Enerhaugen
  • A farm in Setesdal from 1738. In Setesdal
  • See historical agriculture and animals, in the Open-Air Museum

At weekends also:

  • A bourgeois home in 1769. At Chrystiegården
  • Farmer's wife Bjørg in 1959. In Trøndelag

Experience traditional folk dance and music.

Enjoy traditional folk dance and music in the open-air museum.

  • When and where: 10:30, 11:30, 12:30, 13:30, 14:30, 15:30, and 16:30 daily until August 31 at Telemarkstunet.

Experience a wonderful folk dance performance by the museum’s own dance group!

  • When and where: August 10, 17, 24, and 31, and September 7 at 2:00 PM at the Theatre.

Just like in the old days, you’ll be swept away as our guide shares whimsical, silly, and dramatic folk tales.

Our exhibitions tell the story of daily life and living conditions in Norway from the 1500s to the present day:

  • Lapskaus Boulevard: Norwegian Immigrants in Brooklyn 1950-1970.
  • TIDSROM 1600-1914: Norwegian bourgeois and civil servant culture through everyday life and celebration.
  • Folk Art: A selection of Norwegian folk art from the Middle Ages to around 1900.
  • Folk Dress: Festive Dress and Workwear
  • Sámi culture: Features of daily life in Sámi communities in the 19th and 20th centuries.

In the weekends you can buy freshly baked traditional Norwegian lefse in Numedal.
