Visitor Information

How long does it take to see the museum?

It takes about 1 hour to see the museum.

Where and how can I buy tickets?

Tickets can be purchased on the website or upon arrival. We rarely have lines at the ticket counter.

Do you accept companion certificates?

Yes, companions are granted free entry upon presenting a companion certificate.

How can I buy a ticket with a companion certificate?

If you have a companion certificate, you can collect your ticket at the museum's visitor center upon arrival. There is no need to pre-order the ticket.

Is it possible to refund a ticket?

No, unfortunately, we cannot refund ticket purchases.

Can I change the date of a purchased ticket?

Yes, tickets can be used within 7 days from the original visit date. To change the date, visit our visitor center upon arrival, and a new ticket will be issued.

Do you offer an OBOS discount?

All OBOS members receive discounted admission to Norsk Folkemuseum upon showing a valid OBOS membership card. See our website here for ticket prices.

How much do lefser cost?

A lefse costs 35 NOK. You can pay in cash at the sales location or purchase coupons at our visitor center. Museum entrance tickets can also be purchased at the visitor center.

Can I purchase Lefse today?

Lefser are sold on weekends throughout the year, except in January and the holiday season. Daily sales begin from Midsummer (Sankthans) until mid-August.

Can we bring a dog?

Dogs are welcome in the open-air museum but must be kept on a leash. They are not allowed inside buildings, except for guide dogs.

Is it allowed to barbeque inside the museum?

Barbecuing is not allowed.

Can we bring our own food and drinks?

There are many lovely spots to enjoy your own food in the open-air museum. Tables and benches are available at the Festplassen and by the playground. Bringing food and drinks into buildings and exhibitions is not permitted, nor is bringing your own alcohol.

Can we borrow a wheelchair?

The visitor center has two wheelchairs available for loan. It is not possible to reserve them in advance.

Do you offer guided tours for groups?

The animals at the museum

When and where are the animals?

The animals are moved around depending on grazing needs. Sometimes they are brought into the barn, for example, during colder weather, but this varies each year. The barn is open on weekends.

What kinds of animals do you have?

We have a variety of animals grazing or in the barn, including rabbits, horses, pigs, sheep, and occasionally calves.

Venue Rentals and Photography

Is it possible to rent a venue at Norsk Folkemuseum?

Yes, Gjestestuene and Sæterhytten are available for rental. See our website here.

Can we take photos/wedding photos at your location?

Photography and filming for private use at Norsk Folkemuseum are allowed and free of charge unless otherwise specified. This also includes the use of flash. Any recordings intended for publication or commercial use are subject to fees and require prior permission from the museum.

Can I fly a drone and film over the open-air museum?

No, drone use is not permitted in the open-air museum.
