We are the largest Latvian children's folk dance ensemble "Zelta sietiņš". Our ensemble was founded in 1958 and this is already our 65th anniversary season. During the 65 years, many generations of dancers have changed in the ensemble.
"Zelta sietiņš" has gained recognition both in Latvia and abroad. In addition to participating in traditional Latvian song and dance festival, the ensemble gives around 30 concerts in Latvia every year, as well as creates productions and participates in various events and projects. By participating in international folklore and folk art festivals, "Zelta sietiņš" popularizes Latvian folk dances and delights dance lovers in many parts of the world. The ensemble has performed in almost all European countries, as well as in the USA, in Canada, Morocco, Japan, Brazil, Peru, etc., scoring big success. What does the name "Zelta sietiņš" mean?
The answer can be found by looking at the sky - there, near the Taurus constellation, you can see an open cluster of stars (M45) or the Pleiades, which is called Sietiņš in Latvian. You can see Sietiņš in the sky of Latvia in the spring before sunrise, and in the winter - in the evenings. To the human eye, Sietiņš looks like seven bright stars, but in reality there are many more of them - hundreds, thousands. Like our dancers - past, present and future!
